Hi everyone! It turns out that we actually can get wireless at the remote cabin we are staying in we just have to go to the office that will be closing in 15 minutes. So this will be a quick entry tonight.
Today we are staying right outside of Bryce Canyon, still in Utah. It is magnificent. I (Mare) have waited to see this park for a long time. It's everything I always expected.
As most of you know, today was Rich's birthday and we spent it walking on a trail that was at 9000 feet. It was wonderful even though we still felt the difference in altitude. Rich turned 64 but in comparison to "tree years" he's still in diapers. This tree stump he's standing next to is about 1500 years old. There are still live trees growing at the top of this mountain in the 1500 year range. Amazing!
Bryce National Park has the most impressive "red rocks" (sandstone) structures in the world. They are pillars that have been eroded over millions of years and are called, "hoodos." But we're not just talking about a few, we're talking about thousands of them.
This arch which is called the natural bridge was actually worn away by temperature changes over millions of years. When it eventually falls it will become a hoodo.
You can drive around a scenic route on top of the canyon(s) and stop a number of overviews, each with a different view. They also did a great job of creating an "under the rim" path that goes for 27 miles and you can walk up & down for as long as you can make it.
One of the best views they say is to see the Amphitheatre (which is this enormous canyon of hoodos) at sunrise. We are going to try and do it tomorrow at 6:18AM or, we may just buy a postcard with a photo of it. Here are some of the beautiful scenes we saw today. What a great way to spend your birthday!
More photos and detail will be included tomorrow! Good night, love, Mare & Rich

Happy Belated Birthday Rich and Happy Birthday Mare! I think I have the right day- May 20th....if not and I missed it, have a belated one also. Trip is looking great, Joe M asked where you were going after you got to Bryce and I told him that I wasn't sure- until the giant header of a map went up. Still, it is great to know. Keep 'em coming!
Love, Christine
Well, Tommy is doing our header for us and it's not so easy to do. I did a whole route map but it's even harder to get that on the site. So, he's using my 3 part guide.
Maybe I'll give everyone a head's up on the overall route so they know what to expect.
Love and thanks for all the b-day greetings,
Mare
