Cool Water

Daily Mileage= 292;

Today we traveled into Arizona but not before we stopped at the Four Corners National Monument. Rich is standing at the exact spot that puts his arms in 2 states and his legs in 2 states. Now here's the question for all you blog fans, especially the kids, what are the four states? No looking it up before you give us the answer. Answer will be announced tomorrow.

The topography is so different when you get to Arizona. You immediately get into the desert terrain. It's still beautiful but it's very different than the Rockies and definitely not so green!

We ended up in Page, AZ which is right on the border of southern Utah. We picked the place because it fit into the travel schedule however, we had a wonderful surprise and actually had a delightful stay in Page. It is beautiful!
Page is right next to Glen Canyon Dam and the gorgeous Lake Powell. Lake Powell is the second largest man made lake in the US. It was formed when they built the dam in 1957. The dam regulates the water from the Colorado River that flows into the Grand Canyon and beyond. Like all dams are suppose to do, it saves the water for when there isn't enough and regulates the flow more consistently. However, the lake that was formed as a result of the dam is absolutely beautiful. And, we both kept saying, how come we never heard of this are?!? So, HERE'S THE DAM PHOTO!! (Sounds like the Griswold's Summer Vacation, doesn't if?)

We took a hike to Horse Shoe Bend which is on top of canyon looking down at the Colorado River. The river actually bends from a south to east to south to west to south direction in a course of 2 miles. It looks like it's going around a big island and it absolutely gorgeous.

There are many beautiful places to visit but we are only passing through so we didn't have time. You can actually rent house boats and go around the lake stopping at some places only accessible by boat. It would be a great vacation. So how come the AZ clan hasn't suggested this as a Bastek vacation, it would awesome!?!

That's it for now. Oh by the way, the temperature was 96 degrees when we arrived. Good thing we're doing this part of the country now, a month later and we would really be dying! (We just needed some "Cool, Clear Water") We're on to Utah tomorrow.

Hope all is well, love, Mare & Rich

Rich says that since his stomach is balanced over his feet, it's in all four states! Mare & Rich

One of the AZ clan says: we are driving way too fast, we miss it. We want to get to the one-armed bandits in Vegas. Gotta know where the priorities lie. LOL

Maybe this should be the next family trip?? Since there aren't any weddings planned in the near future-(for all of those who keep hinting...) a house boat can be rented out. I really would have to look into it. Sounds fun...and like a lot of sunburn!
